Air Quality Consulting

An open bore drilling construction site foundation with excavation equipment, metal piping, safety barriers, and construction tools.

Independent air quality consulting to support WHS compliance, worker health and regulatory assurance.

NVAQ provides specialist air quality consulting services to assess, monitor and manage airborne contaminants in accordance with WHS legislation and SafeWork NSW requirements. Our services support duty holders in meeting their obligations to eliminate or minimise exposure to hazardous airborne substances so far as is reasonably practicable.

Experience

NVAQ has extensive experience delivering air quality consulting across construction, civil infrastructure, tunnelling, mining, demolition, remediation and industrial environments. We regularly support projects involving high-risk airborne contaminants generated during cutting, grinding, excavation, blasting, crushing and material handling activities.

Our work assists persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBUs) to identify exposure risks, assess worker exposure and implement appropriate control measures in line with WHS Regulations and applicable Codes of Practice.

Silica, Dust & Hazardous Airborne Contaminants

We assess and monitor exposure to airborne contaminants including:

  • Respirable crystalline silica (RCS)

  • Inhalable and respirable dust (PM10, PM2.5, TSP)

  • Asbestos fibres

  • Diesel particulate matter (DPM)

  • Welding fumes and volatile organic compounds (VOCs)

  • Lead and other metals

Monitoring is undertaken using calibrated equipment, with laboratory analysis conducted through NATA-accredited facilities where required.

WHS & Regulatory Compliance

NVAQ’s air quality consulting supports compliance with:

  • Work Health and Safety Regulation 2017 (NSW)

  • SafeWork NSW exposure standards

  • Relevant Codes of Practice, including Managing Risks of Respirable Crystalline Silica

  • EPA licence conditions and project approval requirements

We provide clear interpretation of monitoring results, assessment against workplace exposure standards, and practical guidance on control measures where exceedances or elevated risks are identified.

Monitoring, Assessment & Control Support

Our services include:

  • Personal exposure monitoring (full-shift and task-based sampling)

  • Static and area air monitoring

  • Real-time dust monitoring with alerts

  • Asbestos air monitoring and clearance testing

  • Air quality risk assessments

  • Review of existing control measures and recommendations for improvement

All reporting is prepared to support WHS compliance, internal audits and regulator review.

Questions about
Acoustic Consulting

  • RCS is a hazardous airborne contaminant regulated under WHS legislation. Monitoring is used to assess worker exposure and determine whether control measures are effective and exposure standards are met.

  • Yes. We conduct personal exposure monitoring using individual sampling equipment to assess exposure over a full shift or specific tasks, in line with SafeWork NSW guidance.

  • Yes. We provide asbestos air monitoring, clearance monitoring and re-occupation testing in accordance with WHS Regulations and Codes of Practice.

  • We provide clear advice on the findings, assist with identifying contributing factors, and recommend reasonably practicable control measures to reduce exposure.

  • Yes. Our reports are prepared to meet regulatory expectations and are suitable for submission or review by SafeWork NSW.

  • Ideally before high-risk work commences. We also assist where work is already underway and exposure concerns, incidents or regulator requests arise.
